The Nebraska women’s basketball team earned the 6th-seed in this week’s Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. At 9-9 in league play, the Huskers finished in a four-way tie with Minnesota, Michigan State and Northwestern… but the Huskers owned the tiebreakers to earn the tourney’s 6th seed. The Huskers will have a first-round bye at the tourney and will open play on Thursday against either the 11th-seed Purdue or the 14th-seed Illinois. If the Huskers advance, they would face the 3rd-seed Rutgers in Friday’s quarterfinals. The Big Ten semifinals are Saturday, with the Championship Game set for this Sunday at 5:00.
The Husker men wrap up their regular season schedule this week with a pair of games against nationally ranked opponents. They are Michigan State (#6 AP, #8 Coaches Poll) tomorrow night, tipoff is at 6:00. They close out the season at home Sunday with a game against the Iowa Hawkeyes (#22 AP, #21 Coaches).
The Nebraska baseball team went 1-1 at the Frisco Classic in Texas this past weekend. After downing 3rd-ranked Texas Tech 2-1 Friday, the were edged by Sam Houston State 11-10 Saturday. Sundays game against 12th-ranked Mississippi State was cancelled because of cold weather and travel restrictions. The Huskers home opener against UNO has been postponed, which means they are now off until this weekend when they travel back to Texas for a three game series against former Big 12 foe Baylor.
