Kearney Little League out; Hastings in American Legion Regional; Huskers in CBS Top 25; and Niles Paul retires

INDIANA – The Kearney Little League All-Stars represented Nebraska at the Midwest Regionals in Indiana. Nebraska was eliminated by North Dakota 6-3 yesterday after earlier falling to Minnesota 15-7 Saturday. Today’s games feature Missouri and North Dakota and Minnesota and Iowa – both at 11am. HASTINGS – The Mid-South American Legion Baseball Tournament gets underway today at 10am. Teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and two from Nebraska are in the bracket. Fremont will play Sedalia, Missouri at 4pm and Hastings Five Points will face Bryant, Arkansas tonight at 7pm. The Grand Island Independent reports it’s the first American Legion Regional in Nebraska since 2004 the first since 1979 at Duncan Field in Hastings.

LINCOLN – CBS Sports has released its preseason Top 25 and has Nebraska at No. 24 – citing big offseason adjustments as the Huskers enter year-two under Scott Frost. Nebraska senior wideout Kanawai Noa is one of 62 players named to the 2019 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award preseason watch list announced Tuesday.

SAN FRANCISCO – Former Husker Niles Paul says he’s retiring after 8 seasons in the NFL. The Omaha native made the announcement Tuesday. Most of Paul’s career was with the Washington Redskins. The team who drafted him in 2011 in the 5th round. Paul thanked the San Francisco 49ers for bringing him into training camp this season while adding “There is no doubt in my mind that I’m still able to compete and make a 53 man roster somewhere but I’m not sure my body can handle it anymore.” Visit Huskermax.com for more.
