GRAND ISLAND – The Grand Island Northwest High School Football team got their Wednesday workout in by helping with storm clean up after 80mph plus winds hit the city early Wednesday morning. KSNB Local Four News reports players broke up into eight groups to help as many folks as possible remove trees and clear debris. Coach Kevin Stein made the decision to opt for community service instead of practice after seeing how much clean up was needed on his property alone.

HASTINGS – Fremont defeated Sedalia, Missouri 8-2 yesterday at the Mid-South American Legion Baseball Tournament at Duncan Field in Hastings. Hastings Five Points lost a close one, 3-2, to Bryant, Arkansas. Hastings and Emporia, Kansas will play this morning at 11:30 a.m. and Fremont and Coweta, Oklahoma take the field this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

LINCOLN – Sports Illustrated has released its preseason college football Top 25. SI has Nebraska at No. 24 and predicts the Huskers will be in the chase for a division title.

LINCOLN – Athlon wanted the scoop on what Big 10 coaches thought of their opponents heading into 2019. Apparently, they weren’t too keen on dishing and only did so anonymously. So, what do they think about the Huskers?

“That’s a different team in terms of behavior and attitude on the sidelines…”

“…they’re the conference’s most talked-about team in recruiting.”

“They’re going to have more speed than you would expect… in recent years.”

“The QB is a hell of a player…”

“We see them out in recruiting showing in places they haven’t in decades…”

“…they’re going to be a problem in the West.”
