Hastings, Fremont, alive at Legion Regional; Huskers unbeaten in Italy; Husker football stronger

HASTINGS – Hastings Five Points defeated Emporia, Kansas 7-6 yesterday at the Mid-South American Legion Baseball Tournament at Duncan Field in Hastings. Hastings will face Coweta, Oklahoma this morning at 9:30 a.m. Coweta lost to Fremont 7-4 yesterday. Fremont, which remains alive in the winner’s bracket, will take on Festus, Missouri this evening at 7 p.m.

ITALY – The Huskers men’s basketball team remains unbeaten in Italy. Freshman Samari Curtis led the team in double figure to a 73-70 win over Silute Basketball Club Thursday evening in Florence. The Huskers now head to Como for the final leg of their trip to tipoff against Italian Select Monday night.

DALLAS – He skipped his senior season with the Huskers and it’s paid off for Isaiah Roby who has signed a four-year $6.7 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Roby was taken in the second round. Dallas acquired Roby in a trade with Detroit.

LINCOLN – Husker football position coaches continue to praise the work – and results – of strength and conditioning coach Zach Duval. Running backs coach Ryan Held says he’s seen significant upgrades with his personnel compared to the beginning of fall camp last year saying, “It’s not even close…” and “we’re looking like a football team.”
