Bipartisan legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate would beef up university resources so extension staff can better assist farmers adopting conservation practices.
Minnesota Democrat Tina Smith and Indiana Republican Todd Young co-authored the Conservation and Innovative Climate Partnership Act.
Smith tells Brownfield the legislation is all about getting tools into the hands of farmers and ranchers.
“It provides support to university extension services that would allow those universities to provide direct one-on-one technical assistance and support to farmers.”
She says that includes the latest research and ideas producers could implement on their farms.
