USDA: 4% of U.S. corn crop planted

The USDA says the U.S. corn planting pace is just a little bit ahead of average.

As of Sunday, 4% of the crop is planted, compared to 2% a week ago and the five-year average of 3%, with most of the overall progress in southern and southeastern portions of the growing region and while it is very early, appreciable planting is underway in parts of the Midwest.

53% of winter wheat is rated good to excellent, steady on the week and down 9% on the year, with 5% of the crop headed, compared to 7% on average.
