NU Women Fall at Home, Lopers on the Road, and High School Schedules

Purdue downed the Nebraska womens basketball team 76-68 at Pinnacle Bank Arena last night. With their first Big Ten home loss of the season, the Husker women fall to 4-4 in the conference and 14-5 overall. The Husker women will travel to Madision Saturday for a game against Wisconsin. The Huskers and Badgers will tipoff at 11:00. The Husker men travel to New Jersey Saturday to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Saturday’s tipoff is set for 1:00.

The UNK basketball teams open a three game road swing tonight at Northwest Missouri State. The Loper men have won eight of their last nine to move into third place in the MIAA standings. The Bearcat men, who are the 2nd ranked team in nation and the defending national champions, have won eight in a row. On the women’s side, the Lopers have won ten of their last eleven and are currently tied with nationally ranked Fort Hays State for third place in the conference standings. The Northwest women have lost three in a row. The women tipoff tonight at 5:30, the mens game will follow at 7:30.

The Tri-City Storm’s Mitchell Miller has been named the USHL’s Defenseman of the Week. Miller scored three goals, recorded four assists, and finished the week with a plus/minus rating of +3 in the Storm’s three road games against Waterloo and Youngstown. This is the first time this season that a Storm player has been named the USHL Defenseman of the Week. The Storm return to home ice this weekend with games against Fargo and Omaha.

The Husker coaching staff will be hosting another “Junior Day” this Saturday. Here’s a partial look at some of the prospects who will be attending the event. That group includes offered players like defensive linemen Jeffrey Bowie (West Branch, Iowa) and Ryan Keeler (La Grange Park, Illinois); athlete Seth Malcom (Tabor, Iowa) and two-way lineman Ru’Quan Buckley (Grand Rapids, Michigan).
