The UNK women’s basketball team, riding an eight-game winning streak, is now ranked 23rd in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Top 25 poll. This is their first time in a national top 25 since November 5th, 2008, when they were 25th in the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) poll. The Lopers (20-2) are currently 30th in that poll. The Lopers join Central Missouri (11th) and Sioux Falls (13th) as the other Central Region teams in the Top 25. The nation’s three unbeatens — Drury (Mo.), Ashland (Ohio) and Texas A & M Commerce – occupy the top three spots. The Loper men and women host Central Oklahoma and Newman this weekend at the Health & Sports Center.
The Tri-Storm fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 7-3 last night in South Dakota. The Storm are now off until Saturday, February 15th, with a road game against the Madison Capitols.
Tickets to the 2020 Nebraska Football team’s Spring Game went on sale yesterday morning. The general public can purchase their tickets beginng this morning at 10:00. Purchase tickets on-line at Huskers.com, or by phone at 1-800-8-BIG RED. The spring game will be played Saturday, April 18th, with time of the kickoff to be determined at a later date.
It will be a quiet National Letter of Intent signing day for the Nebraska football team today. The Huskers added 42 student-athletes to the 2020 roster during the December early signing period, including 23 scholarship signees and 19 walk-ons.
The UNK football team will announce its 2020 recruiting class tonight. Head coach Josh Lynn and his staff will be at Cunningham’s on the Lake at 5:30 p.m. to talk about the class. The evening will include videos of the incoming players and how preparations are going for the upcoming 2020 season. Spring workouts are set to begin on Tuesday, March 10th.
Ten Kearney High student-athletes will be signing national letters of intent in the Kearney High Chat Auditorium this morning at 7:30.
