Authorities release name of woman killed in tanker crash

TRYON, Neb. (AP) – Authorities in central Nebraska have identified a woman killed in in a west-central Nebraska crash.

Station KNOP-TV reports that 37-year-old Sheila Viter, of Tryon, died after her vehicle collided with an empty fuel tanker truck on a foggy state highway.

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. Monday on Nebraska Highway 97 in McPherson County, about 1.5 miles north of the Lincoln County line.

Authorities say Viter was headed north when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck the oncoming truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
