All five of this summer’s Mr. Basketball & Miss Basketball events have been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a statement from event organizer, Doug Koster says, “While COVID-19 isn’t in any of our playbooks, the health & safety of our participants, spectators & event staff is paramount. We‘ve monitored the situation in hopes that conditions would allow teams to safely compete in our tournaments, within the CDC and state health guidelines. Governor Ricketts’ Directed Health Measures have shut down sports in Nebraska & today we learned of athletic facility lockdowns that impact our ability to host the tournaments. Therefore, we are cancelling our five events in Kearney and Sioux Falls this summer.” Thousands of athletes have competed in the Mr. Basketball & Miss Basketball events each summer since 1992.
