By News May 7, 2020 | 6:01 AM

Bellevue West three star prospect Keagan Johnson announced his commitment to Iowa Wednesday. A first-team Super-State wide receiver/defensive back, Johnson chose the Hawkeyes over Nebraska, Kansas State and Iowa State. Johnson’s dad Clester played wingback on Nebraska’s ‘94-95 National Championship teams. As a receiver, Johnson had 672 yards on 52 catches and eight touchdowns during Bellevue West’s Class A championship season last fall, and also ripped off touchdown runs of 50 and 49 yards in the state title game.

Gil Brandt lists JD Spielman among his Top 10 senior wide receivers for the 2021 NFL draft. Spielman took a leave from the Husker program, returning to his home in Minnesota in February to handle what head coach Scott Frost described as a personal health matter. Spielman ended his junior season ranked third all-time at Nebraska in both receptions (170) and receiving yards (2,546), while ranking second in 100-yard receiving games (8), third in combined kick return touchdowns (3), seventh in punt return touchdowns (2) and eighth in receiving touchdowns (15). Spielman was also highlighted as one of the nation’s most under-the-radar offensive weapons by Pro Football Focus.

Athlon Sports looks at several potential Nebraska targets in the transfer portal. They include Houston defensive end Isaiah Chambers. A former four-star prospect, the 6-foot-5 265-pound Chambers played in 10 games for the Cougars in ’19 and racked up five tackles for a loss, four sacks, and a forced fumble. The Huskers are also showing interest in 6-foot-1, 235 pound outside linebacker Mark Jackson Junior from Oklahoma. Jackson’s primary role with the Sooners was as a pass-rush specialist.

The Tri-City Storm has completed the second and final phase of the 2020 USHL Draft by making twenty-one selections. The Storm selected fourteen forwards, five defenseman, and two goaltenders in Tuesday’s draft. The next major event on the Storm’s schedule will be its 2020 Selection Camp & Tryouts held in late July at the Las Vegas Ice Center in Las Vegas, NV.
