NSAA: Fall Sports Season to Begin “As Scheduled”

By News Jul 20, 2020 | 4:14 PM

The Nebraska School Activities Association(NSAA) is preparing for the 2020 fall sports season to progress “as currently scheduled.”

In a Monday announcement, the NSAA says the first practices for fall sports — cross country, girls golf, football, softball, boys tennis, and volleyball — will begin August 10. The NSAA lists a number of recommendations that member schools should follow:

  • keep all activities, practices, and scrimmages in-house to avoid interaction with other teams
  • wear masks when not in competition
  • keep groups small and attendance recorded
  • wash your hands regularly
  • disinfect equipment regularly
  • stay home if you don’t feel well
  • stay home if someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19

“The health and safety of our student participants, coaches, and officials has been our priority as we work to provide activities for our member schools,” says the release. “This will not change, and modifications may have to be made.”

The first contests on the calendar are girls golf and softball on August 20. The other four sports have their first competition a week later, with a few football games scheduled for August 21.

The release closes with, “Our ultimate goal is to return to school to have a full, productive, healthy season and create a great experience for our students. Please, help us achieve this goal.”
