Big Ten postpones all sports, Huskers to evaluate options

By News Aug 11, 2020 | 3:03 PM

(KGFW) – The Big Ten Conference has officially announced postponement of all Fall sports.

According to a statement, the conference “relied on the medical advice and counsel of the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee.”

Commissioner Kevin Warren appeared live on the Big Ten Network shortly after the 2 p.m. announcement saying players’ health and safety was the top priortiy.

Commissioner Warren declined to disclose whether the vote was unanimous or if teams would have the option to play outside of the conference this Fall.

Several universities issued statements of their own, including Nebraska, which expressed disappointment in the decision. Adding that the university “will continue to consult with medical experts and evaluate the situation as it emerges. We hope it may be possible for our student athletes to have the opportunity to compete.”
