ELM CREEK, Neb. – The Elm Creek Legion and Legion Auxiliary are pleased to unveil the design for a new Veterans’ Memorial in Elm Creek.

Legion Post Commander Dick Tool stated that the existing memorial, while a meaningful tribute, was in need of upgrades, particularly to the heaving and broken concrete. “We want to make sure that all branches of service are represented, and that veterans and their families can come here for generations to pay respect to those who have served.”

Improvements in the new design include additional seating, green space, and accessible parking.

Legion Member Stan Brodine added, “This memorial is for everyone in the community who  served – and those who are still serving our country today.”

In order to finance the project, the Legion has been raising funds since February 2020. The Village of Elm Creek has promised to match every dollar raised, up to $15,000. Village Board Vice-Chairperson Davis miner said, “Our town is proud of our veterans and we want to demonstrate that with a fitting tribute to their sacrifices.”

Construction of the new memorial is planned for Spring of 2021. Donations are accepted at the Village office during regular business hours, online at https://www.kearneyfoundation.org/donate , or by mail to Kearney Area Community Foundation, attn: Elm Creek Veterans Fund, 412 W 48th Street, Suite 12, Kearney, NE 68845.
