Omaha native and Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers has passed away at age 77. Sayers graduated from Omaha Central before starring at running back at Kansas and then the Chicago Bears from 1965-1971. He was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 despite playing just seven seasons, all with the Bears. At 34, he was the youngest player ever inducted. He was also the first African American athlete inducted into the Nebraska Sports Hall of fame in 1973.

Three Husker redshirt freshman walk-ons have been charged with misdemeanors in connection with a loud party earlier this month. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Huskers John Bullock, Cooper Jewett and Caden McCormack and their roommate, Carter Durbin, all are set to go to court Oct. 13th. Lincoln police say they ticketed the four after a neighbor called about a loud party at a home on the northwest edge of town shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sept. 11th. Police had been called to that same house four times in the previous months regarding loud party complaints and had been warned they would be cited “if further party problems continued.” McCormack, an inside linebacker, is a Lincoln Southwest graduate. Bullock is a redshirt freshman outside linebacker from Creighton Prep and Jewett is a running back from Elkhorn South. None of the three appeared in a game during their first collegiate seasons in 2019.

The Nebraska men’s basketball program is planning to be part of a 16-team tournament held in Lincoln in late November or early December, The Huskers were previously scheduled to play in the Myrtle Beach Invitational, which has been moved to Orlando, Florida. According to sources, the tourney would include teams from the Big 12, SEC, Missouri Valley, Summit League and Conference USA. Event planning will move forward if the Big Ten allows league teams to play nonconference games.

Grand Island junior Isaac Traudt continues to draw interest from basketball programs from across the nation. The 6-foot-9 4-Star 2022 prospect recently received offers from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Georgetown. Add those to previous offers from Creighton, Iowa State, Kansas State, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Traudt is currently the 61st best prospect in the nation according to the Rivals recruiting service.
