KGFW Sports – Frost Speaks, Traudt's Offer, Storm 6 Drafted and High School Update

By News Oct 8, 2020 | 6:06 AM

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost made an appearance on the Husker Sports Network last night.

Nebraska began its padded practices on Sept. 30th. The Huskers have purposely chosen, under Frost’s direction… heavy, physical practices. Nebraska will travel to Columbus, Ohio on October 24th for the season opener against Ohio State. Kickoff will be at 11:00.

Frost also said the offense has been simplified this fall. He says the coaching staff made a concerted effort to streamline their schemes in the offseason, using new offensive coordinator Matt Lubick’s organizational skills to create an efficiency plan for practice.

Frost said he’s waiting to hear if the Huskers will have to limit their roster when the season begins. He says NU is still working through options with the Big Ten.

Two players — sophomore William Przystup and freshman Daniel Cerni — are battling for the starting punting job, while LSU transfer Connor Culp and freshman Tyson Crawford are battling for the starting kicker job. The Huskers used six placekickers last season.

Nebraska inside linebacker Luke Reimer has been awarded a scholarship. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Lincoln North Star graduate appeared in ten games last season as a true freshman. Frost said Nebraska will be awarding four or five scholarships to other walk-ons soon.

The Huskers have extended a walk-on offer to Jake Parrella. The outside linebacker/tight end from Ohio made that announcement on social media Tuesday. Jake is the son of former Husker defensive lineman and defensive line coach John Parrella. Nebraska currently has one walk-on commit in its 2021 class — Ashland-Greenwood running back Matthew Schuster, who is the son of former Husker back Brian Schuster.

The University of Louisville men’s basketball program is the latest to offer a scholarship to Class of 2022 power forward Isaac Traudt. The 6-foot-9, 195-pound Grand Island native, who received his first D1 offer back in April, now has 25 offers from a list of schools that includes Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Georgetown, Iowa State, Kansas State, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Creighton. Traudt is the top ranked player in Nebraska and the No. 10 ranked power forward in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also their No. 56 ranked player overall.

Six members of the Tri-City Storm were selected in the NHL draft Wednesday. Mitchell Miller was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes, Colby Ambrosio will joion the Colorado Avalanche, Kyle Aucoin was selected by the Detroit Red Wings, Nick Capone was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Chase McLane went to the Nashville Predators, and Ole Julian Bjorgvik-Holm will join the Columbus Blue Jackets. The six draft picks ties a team record.
