KGFW Sports – Husker Home Opener vs. Wisconsin CANCELLED!!

By News Oct 28, 2020 | 12:09 PM

Nebraska’s home opener with Wisconsin has been cancelled because of positive COVID-19 tests among Wisconsin players and staff, including head coach Paul Chryst. The announcement was made by University of Wisconsin officials Wednesday morning. 12 people within the program have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past five days. Those 12 people include six players and six coaches, including head coach Paul Chryst. Additional test results are pending. According to Big Ten protocols, the test positivity rate at the University of Wisconsin was approaching the threshold set by the league that requires teams to stop regular practice and competition for a minimum of seven days. The joint decision to cancel the game was made by Wisconsin’s director of athletics Barry Alvarez and UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, in consultation with the Big Ten Conference. The game will not be rescheduled and will be declared no contest and will be neither a victory nor a loss for either team. The cancellation means the Huskers are now off until Saturday, November 7th when they travel to Evanston, Illinois for 11:00AM matchup with the Northwestern Wildcats. The Huskers home opener will now be November 14th when they host the Penn State Nittany Lions.
