Two teens dead after car submerges in Holdrege lake

HOLDREGE, Neb. (KGFW) – Two teens died after the vehicle they were in went under water in a Holdrege lake. The following is a press release from the Holdrege Police Department:

The Holdrege Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s office and Holdrege Fire Department investigated a one vehicle accident November 5, 2020. At 2310 hours Holdrege Police Department received a 911 call regarding a vehicle going under the water at the North Park Lake in Holdrege, NE. The caller advised there was one or two occupants in the vehicle. Upon officer arrival the car was fully submerged in the lake. Officer Stewart with the Holdrege Police Department dove into the water but was unable to locate the vehicle. Buffalo County Dive team was called in to assist with the search (vehicle was removed from the water prior to their arrival). A member of the Holdrege Fire Department with dive experience located the vehicle and the vehicle was removed from the lake by Kearney Towing. 

[A 16-year-old], from Hildreth, Ne, and [a 14-year-old], of Wilcox, were occupants of the vehicle and both were deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

There are no further details of the accident as the matter is still under investigation.

Because the victims are juveniles, the Holdrege Police Department requested that the press release be published without their names.
