KEARNEY, Neb. – (KGFW) With almost 30 different voices at Tuesday’s Kearney City Council meeting and over 175 e-mails and messages sent over the past week, the city council held a special meeting to discuss the potential of approving a mask mandate for the community which they unanimously approved 5-0. Council members addressed doing the right thing for the community and helping alleviate the stress to hospital staffing shortages and capacity issues.
This mandate will go into effect at 12:01am Monday, November 23 for indoor settings in Kearney. Kearney Police Chief Bryan Waugh said for enforcement the department wants to work with the community on compliance rather than ticketing individuals for not wearing a mask.
