KGFW Sports – No Husker Bowl Game, Lopers and Storm Win and High School Update

By News Dec 21, 2020 | 8:59 AM

It appears the Huskers win at Rutgers Friday will be their final game of the 2020 season. The University released a statement Sunday saying the team would not be accepting a bowl invitation. The decision was made after a player vote. Following Friday’s win over the Scarlet Knights, Husker head coach Scott Frost hinted there might not be bowl appearance. He said both he, and the team, are in need a break. With Friday’s win, the Huskers close the 2020 season with a 3-and-5 record, their fourth straight losing season.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team fell to 1-and-1 in Big Ten play with an 81-45 loss at 15th ranked Indiana yesterday. The Husker women are at Purdue Wednesday. Tipoff will be at 1:00. The Husker men open Big Ten play tomorrow night at Wisconsin. Tipoff will be at 6:00.

The UNK basketball teams closed the 2020 portion of their schedule this weekend with games at the Health and Sports Center. The Loper men were edged by Rogers State Friday, 66-60. They bounced back yesterday with a 72-66 win over Northeastern State. The Loper women improved to 6-and-0 on the season with a 67-40 win Friday, and a 68-56 win over the Riverhawks yesterday. The Loper basketball teams are now off until a January 7th meeting with Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The UNK wrestling team is ranked second in the first edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Top 25. The rankings are determined by a panel of head coaches from around the country. The two-time defending national champions St. Cloud State top the poll. The Lopers are off until a Sunday, January 10th, meet at Iowa State.

The Tri-City Storm skated to a pair of wins over the weekend. They won at Des Moines Friday 2-1, and crushed Omaha Saturday 5-1. The Storm are closing out a four-game road swing this Saturday in Lincoln.
