KGFW Sports – NU Sweeps Indy, Dickerson Decommits and High School Results and Schedules

The 5th ranked Nebraska volleyball team opened their season with a pair of straight set wins at Indiana. The Huskers swept the Hoosiers Friday 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, and Saturday 25-21, 25-16, 25-19. The last time the Huskers opened a season with back-to-back sweeps was 2015. The Huskers host Northwestern this Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Both matches are set for 6:00 p.m. start time.

The 7th ranked Nebraska wrestling team earned wins over 25th ranked Northwestern and Maryland Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers defeated the Wildcats, 26-10… they blanked the Terps, 36-0. The Huskers return to the mat on Sunday, Jan. 31st for their final home dual of the season when they host 22nd ranked Wisconsin.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team completes its regular-season series with Illinois tonight in Champaign. The Huskers opened Big Ten play with a 78-72 win over the Fighting Illini in Lincoln on Dec. 10th. Tipoff is tonight at 7:00. The Husker men’s game against Penn State Saturday has been postponed. It’s the 7th cancellation or postponement for the Husker men this season. At this time, their next scheduled game is Wednesday, Feb. 3rd, at Michigan State

In Husker football news;
– The top-prospect in the state of Nebraska, Omaha Westside defender, Avante Dickerson announced he’s decommitting from Minnesota. Dickerson said he’s had a “change of heart” and he would announce his next commitment on Signing Day, February 3rd. Nebraska has kept a spot available for the 6-foot-tall 170 pound consensus four star prospect. The Huskers took three defensive backs in the recruiting class with commitments from Marques Buford, Koby Bretz and Malik Williams.
– Scott Frost says he’s keeping all 10 assistant coaches and has split play-calling duties about 50-50 with Matt Lubick.
– The Huskers begin their winter conditioning period today. The Spring Game will be played May 1st.

The 11th ranked Creighton men’s basketball team snapped their two game losing streak Saturday with a 74-66 win over 23rd ranked Connecticut at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. The Jays return to the floor Wednesday with a game at Seton Hall.

The UNK basketball teams took on Missouri Southern Saturday in Joplin. The Loper men fell by a score of 85-57. The 4th ranked women improved to 12-0 on the season with a 65-57 win. The Loper basketball teams close out a three game road swing Tuesday at Fort Hays State. Their next home games are February 4th when they host Central Oklahoma.

The 2nd-ranked UNK wrestling team won 27 matches to roll past Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 10th ranked Adams State and Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday afternoon at the Midwest Duals at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. The Lopers will host Central Missouri Thursday at the Health and Sports Center.

The Tri-City Storm split their two games against the Lincoln Stars, winning at home Friday 5-0, but falling at the Ice Box Saturday 2-1. The Storm will open a three game series with the Omaha Lancers Friday at the Viaero Center.
