KGFW Sports – Bluejays Rally, Huskers Host Badgers, Lopers at Home and High School Update

Jan 28, 2021 | 9:45 AM

The 17th ranked Creighton men’s basketball team rallied past the Seton Hall Pirates last night in Newark, New Jersey, 85-81. Trailing by 16 with 11:30 left in the second half, Creighton closed the game on a 14-2 run. The Bluejays were red hot from beyond the arc, hitting 17 threes. Senior guard Mitch Ballock knocked down 7 threes, and finished with a game high 29 points. Now 12-4 on the season and 8-3 in the Big East, the Creighton men travel to Chicago Saturday for a game against Depaul. Tipoff will be at 6:00.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team is hosting Wisconsin tonight. The Huskers are looking for their second Big Ten win of the week after coming out on top at Illinois Monday. The Badgers are 0-10 in conference play and have lost 8 in-a-row. Tipoff at Pinnacle Bank Arena is set for tonight at 7:00.

The Nebraska men’s upcoming game against Michigan State in East Lansing has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 6th, at 5:30 p.m. (Central) and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The Husker men have been idle since their January 10th home loss to Indiana. Their matchup with the Spartans will be the first leg of a two-game road swing, as the Huskers will take on No. 21 Minnesota in Minneapolis, on Monday, Feb. 8th. Tipoff will be determined in the coming day. The Huskers return to Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday, Feb. 11th, to take on No. 14 Wisconsin.

Nebraska senior outfielder Tristen Edwards is one of 50 players nationally named to the 2021 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch Lis. It’s her second straight appearance on the watch list. A 2020 Softball America All-American, Edwards hit .434 in 23 games last season with 10 doubles, 11 home runs and 22 RBIs. She was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in both 2018 and 2019. She is one of only two Big Ten players to make the watch list.

The UNK women’s basketball team is still ranked fourth in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Top 25 poll. Drury (Mo.) remains number one and picked up all 16 first place votes. Other Central Region teams in the poll are Minnesota-Duluth (No. 8), Central Missouri (No. 17) and Arkansas Tech (No. 25). Southwestern Oklahoma State is among others receiving votes. The Loper women will be looking to improve to 13-0 on the season tonight when they host rival Fort Hays State, in a twice postponed home game. Tipoff at the Health and Sports Center is at 5:30.

The UNK wrestlers are also in action tonight. The 2nd ranked Lopers are hosting Central Missouri. Dual action in Cushing Coliseum begins at 6:00.
