KGFW Sports – Huskers Add 3, Storm Win 3 and High School Updates

This past weekend’s Nebraska vs. Northwestern volleyball matches at the Bob Devaney Sports Center were postponed due to COVID issues within the Northwestern program. The institutions will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify rescheduling options. The 5th ranked Huskers are scheduled to host Maryland this Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

– The Huskers have added two in-state walk-ons to the 2021 recruiting class. Maddox Burton, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive lineman from Lincoln Southeast, and 6-foot, 205 pound defensive back Grant Buda of Lincoln Southwest. Buda’s grandfather, Joe Buda, is a former Husker who played center in Lincoln in the late 1960s. His great-uncle, Sandy Buda, was the coach at Nebraska-Omaha.
– Offensive lineman Joey Mancino from New Jersey announced, via Twitter Sunday, that he will be walking-on at Nebraska. At 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, he is the 17th-known member of Nebraska’s 2021 walk-on class and the third from beyond the state line.

The 6th ranked Nebraska wrestling team ended its 2021 home slate in dramatic fashion, winning the final two matches against Wisconsin to earn a 21-15 win Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers travel to Bloomington, Ind. Saturday for a quad meet against Indiana, Michigan State and Rutgers.

A game-ending 10-2 run helped the 17th ranked Creighton men’s basketball team get past Depaul Saturday in Chicago, 69-62. The Bluejays will host Georgetown Wednesday, tipoff at the CHI Health Center is at 8:00.

The 14th ranked Creighton Volleyball team dropped the first two sets before storming back to win at South Dakota yesterday. The turnaround came just 43 hours after South Dakota had pulled off a similar reverse sweep over the Bluejays in Omaha. Creighton will take on 25th ranked Marquette in a four match series beginning with a pair of non-conference match-ups this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 inside D.J. Sokol Arena.

The UNK basketball teams fell at Fort Hays State Saturday. The Tigers sank a season-high 13 three pointers to pull away from the Loper men, 79-68. The 4th ranked Loper women suffered their second straight loss at the hands of the Tigers, 68-60. The Loper men and women will host Central Oklahoma and Newman this week.

The UNK track and field team won 12 events (six men and six women) Saturday at the annual Charlie Foster Field Classic in Cushing Coliseum. The Lopers travel to Maryville, Mo., this weekend for the Bearcat Invitational.

The Tri-City Storm skated past the Omaha Lancers, 7-2, yesterday at the Viaero Center. The Storm swept the three-game series with their in-state rival this weekend, outscoring the Lancers 16-3. The Storm will travel to South Dakota this weekend for a two game series against the Sioux Falls Stampede.

The Storm have acquired a 1st Round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft, a 4th Round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft and Future Considerations from Muskegon in exchange for defenseman Kyle Aucoin and an 8th Round pick in the 2021 Phase I USHL Draft.
