KGFW Sports – Frost Speaks, Updates for NU, UNK and High Schools

Feb 5, 2021 | 6:00 AM

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost met with the media Thursday. Here’s a quick summary of what he had to say on a number of topics:

– Frost said that Nebraska is taking a wait-and-see approach with the quarterbacks. With Luke McCaffrey’s transfer, the Huskers have little experience behind starter Adrian Martinez and could opt to go with either the junior college or transfer route. Frost said the staff wants to see what it has with Logan Smothers, Heinrich Haarberg and others in the group before moving forward.
– Frost said the depth and talent at the skill positions is the best they’ve had since being in Lincoln.
– Omar Manning is in Lincoln, and the former No. 1 junior college wide receiver is working to get healthy.
– Nebraska is close to being able to announce a special teams analyst.
– Defenders Javin Wright and Myles Farmer are on track to be at least limited participants coming off injuries.

The 4th ranked Nebraska volleyball team is hosting the Maryland Terps this weekend at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Tonight’s match begins at 6:00, first serve tomorrow night at 7:30.

The Nebraska women’s basketball team fell at Penn State last night, 85-74. The Husker women continue on the road with a game against Rutgers Sunday in Piscataway, New Jersey. Tipoff will be at 1:00.

The Husker men are finally back in action tomorrow with a game at Michigan State. The Huskers have been idle since a January 10th loss at home to Indiana. The Huskers and Spartans tipoff at 5:30 tomorrow.

15th ranked Creighton will be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin tomorrow for a rematch with Marquette. The Jays opened Big East play December 14th in Omaha with an 89-84 loss to the Golden Eagles. Tipoff is tomorrow afternoon at 4:00.

The Creighton women’s basketball game against Villanova, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed as a result of COVID-19 cases.

The 19th ranked Creighton volleyball team opens a four match series with 25th ranked Marquette tonight at D.J. Sokol Arena. First serve is at 7:00.

The Nebraska wrestling team’s scheduled quad-meet in Bloomington, Indiana will now be a tri-meet. Tomorrow’s dual against Rutgers has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Scarlet Knights’ program. The 7th ranked Huskers will now face Indiana tomorrow afternoon at 1:00, and 23rd ranked Michigan State at 3:00.

The Tri-City Storm are in South Dakota this weekend for a pair of games against the Sioux Falls Stampede. One other note about the Storm; Todd Scott has been named the USHL’s Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season. No player in the USHL has collected more weekly awards to this point in the season than Scott.

The UNK basketball teams hosted Central Oklahoma last night at the Health and Sports Center. The men were topped by the Bronchos 87-79, while the 12th ranked Loper women snapped a two game losing streak with a 75-68 win. The Lopers will host the Newman Jets tomorrow afternoon. The women will tipoff at 2:00, the men at 4:00.

The 2nd-ranked UNK wrestling team is in Wichita, Kansas tonight for a dual with the Newman Jets. Saturday’s dual at nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma has been cancelled.
