Huskers fall short in Big Ten Tournament against Maryland

By News Mar 11, 2021 | 11:56 AM

Just short.

That’s what the effort came up for Nebraska (12-12, 9-10 Big Ten) Thursday in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals against top-seeded Maryland (22-2, 17-1 Big Ten).

A month after being routed in Lincoln, the Huskers held a lead with six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. That lead was erased by an 8-0 Terrapin run. That run, plus six made free throws in the final minute, helped Maryland take the win 83-73.

Nebraska didn’t make a field goal in the final 6:45 of the game, missing all 11 shots taken over that stretch. Even with the misses at the end, the Huskers finished the game shooting 41 percent, including 11-of-26 on 3s.

A day after leading all scorers in a win over Minnesota, Sam Haiby did the same in the quarterfinal loss. Haiby scored 24 points, adding nine rebounds and six assists.

Ashley Scoggin pitched in 14 points, while Isabelle Bourne added 13.

The Huskers finish off the NCAA Tournament radar, but are currently projected for the WNIT field.
