KGFW Sports – No. 4 vs. No. 11, Tourney Updates and More

Mar 12, 2021 | 5:56 AM

The 4th ranked Nebraska volleyball team is hosting 11th ranked Ohio State this weekend at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Riding a three-match winning streak, the Huskers lead the conference in kills and assists per set, and are third in the Big Ten in digs per set. The Buckeyes were picked to finish seventh in the Big Ten but are off to a 12-0 start, including two wins over No. 12 Penn State. Their series at Minnesota last weekend was postponed due to COVID issues within the Minnesota program. Tonight’s match between the 4th-ranked Huskers and 11th-ranked Buckeyes begins at 6:00, while Saturday’s contest starts at 8:00.

The Husker women played hard, and led early in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t hang on against 7th ranked Maryland, falling 83-73 in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tourney yesterday in Indy. Husker All-Big Ten guard Sam Haiby finished with a team high 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists. The tourney’s 8th-seed, the Husker women end the season with a 12-12 overall mark, and finished 9-10 in conference play.

2nd-seeded and 17th-ranked Creighton never trailed in a 87-56 win over 10th-seeded Butler yesterday in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. The Bluejays will take on the 3rd seed, UConn, in the semifinals tonight at 8:00. Creighton beat the Huskies twice during the regular season.

Creighton lost their top 2021 recruit yesterday. Four-star prospect TyTy Washington announced on Twitter that he was decommitting from the Bluejays and would re-open his recruitment. The 6-foot-3 point guard is the 34th ranked high school prospect on the 2021 ESPN 100, including fifth at the lead guard position and first overall among all players in Arizona. Creighton’s lone remaining top-100 recruit for 2021 is now power forward Mason Miller, the No. 98 prospect, according to ESPN.

The Nebraska baseball team is taking on Ohio State and Iowa this weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Huskers face the Buckeyes this afternoon at 3:00, and Iowa tomorrow morning at 9:00. They play a non-traditional doubleheader Sunday, taking on the Buckeyes at 10:00, and Iowa at 2:00.

The Creighton Baseball team was scheduled to host South Dakota State this weekend, but that three-game series has been canceled due to positive COVID-19 test results within the Jackrabbit program. Creighton returns to action March 19th with a four-game weekend series at Kansas.
