Mar 15, 2021 | 5:46 AM

The 4th ranked Nebraska volleyball team split their two match series with 11th ranked Ohio State this past weekend at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers won in five sets Friday, the Buckeyes won in five sets Saturday. The Huskers are on the road this week with matches at Iowa Wednesday and Saturday.

The Nebraska baseball team went 2-2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend. The Husker topped Ohio State Friday, and Iowa Saturday, but lost to both the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes yesterday. The Huskers travel to Iowa City this weekend for a three game series with the Hawkeyes.

Nebraska once again found itself at the center of the national college football conversation on Friday, and not in a good way. Several media sources reported the Huskers were considering backing out of their non-conference game at Oklahoma scheduled for Sept. 18th in Norman. That game will mark the 50th anniversary of the 1971 “Game of the Century,” in which No. 1 Nebraska beat the No. 2 Sooners 35-31 in Norman. Athletic director Bill Moos issued a statement late Friday afternoon confirming the Huskers did explore options for replacing it with another home game to offset financial hardships caused by the pandemic. Three of the Husker’s first four games be on the road, but six of their final eight will be at Memorial Stadium.

In other Husker football related news: Reserve linebacker Niko Cooper is entering the transfer portal. The 6-foot-5, 225 pound JUCO transfer saw action in seven games last season, all on special teams. The Huskers begin spring practice the week of Mar. 29th.

The 8th seed Georgetown upset the second-seed, 17th ranked Creighton, 87-56 in the Big East Tournament Championship game Saturday. Despite the loss, the Bluejays are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time in program history and sixth time in the past 10 years after earning an at-large bid. The fifth-seeded Bluejays will face the 12th-seed UC Santa Barbara this Saturday. Creighton is 1-1 all-time against UC Santa Barbara. Saturday’s winner will face either fourth-seeded Virginia and 13th-seeded Ohio on Monday. The entire 2021 NCAA Tournament will be held in the greater Indianapolis area.

The UNK women’s basketball team will be playing for the Central Region Tournament Championship tonight in Warrensburg, Missouri. The 2nd seeded Lopers defeated Minnesota-Duluth Saturday, 65-57. The Loper’s opponent tonight will be the 4th seed Central Missouri. The Jennies knocked off top-seed Fort Hays State, 72-68, in Saturday’s early game. Tonight’s contest will be the third time UNK and UCM have faced each other this season, with both teams recording a win on the road. Tonight’s NCAA Sweet-16 game is set to tipoff at 6:00. The winner advances to the Elite Eight in Columbus, Ohio.

The 15th-ranked UNK volleyball team swept both 17th ranked Northwest Missouri State, and Missouri Western State this weekend at the Health and Sports Center. The Lopers continue at home Thursday with a match against Fort Hays State, first serve will be at 6:00.
