Huskers begin WNIT with dominating win

The .500 team from a power conference dominated the regular-season champion out of a mid-major.

That was Nebraska (13-12, 9-10 Big Ten) beginning the WNIT with a dominant 72-46 win over UT Martin (20-6, 17-2 Ohio Valley) Friday.

The Huskers led by just three at halftime, but used a 22-10 third quarter and a 22-12 fourth to run away with the first Huskers postseason victory since a 74-55 win over Fresno State in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

A balanced scoring effort led to four Huskers in double-figures. Ashley Scoggin and Isabelle Bourned led the way with 13 points each. Whitney Brown added 12 points, all on 3s, and Mi’Cole Cayton pitched in 10.

Bella Cravens scored seven points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Huskers shot 47.3 percent as a team, including 8-of-24 on 3s.

Nebraska will play Saturday at 5 p.m. CT against the winner of Louisiana and Colorado.
