Nebraska men’s basketball entered the week with four scholarships available. One of those was taken Friday morning.

Former Xavier guard CJ Wilcher announced his commitment on social media.

The 6-foot-5 wing averaged 3.3 points a game over 15 contests this past season as a freshman. A four-star, top 100 prospect out of high school by ESPN, the Plainfield, New Jersey native brings not only shooting, but scoring with him to Lincoln.

“C.J. is the best shooter that I saw in the class of 2020 in the entire country,” Xavier coach Travis Steele said on Wilcher’s Muskateers page. “C.J. can make shots from all over the floor, whether in the post, off the catch or off the dribble. He also really knows how to play and he knows how to use his body. He sees things on the floor and can make his teammates better.

“He is a great shooter, but he is a lot more than that. He’s a scorer and he brings a different dimension on the offensive end.”

Due to the NCAA ruling on eligibility for players this past season, Wilcher has four seasons still to use. He also has a younger brother, Simeon Wilcher, who is a top ten prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

Wilcher joins incoming freshman Bryce McGowens and Wilhelm Breidenbach along with junior college transer Keisei Tominaga for the Huskers’ 2021 signing class.

Nebraska has three open scholarships remaining for next season.
