KGFW Sports – Huskers at Home, 3 Honored, Fans at Practice and High School Update

The Nebraska baseball team returns to Hawks Field this weekend for their second home series of the season, as they welcome the Maryland Terrapins to Lincoln. The Huskers are coming off a series win at Illinois and have won eight of their last nine. They are currently in first place in the Big Ten standings with a 13-5 record, holding a 1/2 game lead over the Michigan Wolverines. The Terps have won four of their last five, but are 4-7 away from Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium, including a 3-2 record in true road games. Game one of the three game series is set for tonight at Hawks Field, first pitch is at 6:30. Game two is Saturday at 2:00, the three game series wraps up Sunday at noon.

The Nebraska softball team hosts the Illinois Fighting Illini this weekend in a four-game series at Bowlin Stadium. The series begins with a single game today at 5:30, followed by a Noon doubleheader on Saturday. The final game of the series is set for Sunday morning at 11:00.

Nebraska volleyball seniors Lauren Stivrins and Lexi Sun and junior Nicklin Hames were voted to the All-Big Ten First Team by the league’s 14 head coaches on Thursday. All three were repeat honorees from the 2019 All-Big Ten First Team. The Huskers will open the NCAA Tournament next Thursday at the CHI Health Center Omaha Convention Center. Nebraska will play at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of the Texas State-Utah Valley first-round match-up.

The Nebraska football team is holding their sixth practice of the spring this morning. Nebraska’s April 17th practice will be open to 4,000 members of the public. Free tickets will be made available in three groups, beginning with the first wave tonight at 6:00 p.m. The next group of tickets will be made available on Monday at 6:00 p.m., with the final group on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The 10th ranked UNK volleyball team is in Missouri this weekend for matches against Missouri Western State and 18th ranked Northwest Missouri State. The Lopers will close the spring next week at the MIAA Spring Invite in Topeka, Kansas. The UNK softball team is in Hays, Kansas Saturday for a double header with Fort Hays State. The UNK track & field team heads to Wichita State for the first-time ever for the Shockers annual WSU Open Saturday.

The Tri-City Storm opens the weekend Friday with a game against the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box. The Storm will host the Stars Saturday night at 7:05.
