Huskers Travel to Omaha, Bowling Champs and High School Update

Apr 13, 2021 | 6:03 AM

The Nebraska volleyball team will travel to Omaha today, as they begin their final preparations for the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers are the tourney’s 5th overall seed and will take on the Texas State-Utah Valley winner Thursday afternoon at 2:30. The NCAA Final is set for Saturday, April 24th at 8:00.

The Nebraska baseball team defeated Maryland yesterday at Hawks Field, 14-3. Taking 2-of-3 from the Terps, the Huskers are now all alone in first place in the Big Ten standings. The Huskers open a six game road swing next week at Penn State.

The Nebraska softball team took 3-of-4 from the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this past weekend at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers travel to Minneapolis this weekend for a four game series with the Gophers.

The Nebraska football team is holding their 7th practice of the spring this morning. Head coach Scott Frost and several players will be meeting with media following the workout. You can find links to those interviews at HUSKERMAX.com.

This reminder, Nebraska’s April 17th practice will be open to 4,000 members of the public. Free tickets will be made available again tonight, and Wednesday night at 6:00. For tickets visit Huskers.com/tickets. Tickets for the May 1st Red-White Spring Game are also still available at Huskers.com. All tickets for the spring game are mobile and cost $10.

The Husker bowling team claimed the NCAA championship Saturday night with a 4-1 win over Arkansas State.

The 10th ranked UNK volleyball team won at Missouri Western State Friday, but were swept by 18th ranked Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon in Maryville. The Lopers will be the North Division top seed in this week’s MIAA’s Spring Tournament in Topeka, Kansas. As part of the non-traditional spring season, teams were split into two divisions this year. Each team had eight matches count toward their divisional record, which determined their tourney seeding. The Lopers are scheduled to face the winner of Newman/Pittsburg State on Friday at 3:00. Central Missouri won the South Division. The Jennies play the winner of Emporia State/Missouri Western, Friday at 5:00. The MIAA Spring Tourney Semifinals and Championship match will all be played Saturday.

The UNK track and field team won four events and had 18 other top five finishes at the Wichita State Open Saturday in Kansas. Winning their respective events were redshirt juniors Tiara Schmidt (shot put) and Logan Prater (discus), and redshirt freshman Wes Ferguson (800) and Brayden Sorensen (high jump). UNK hosts the Loper Invite this Friday afternoon at Kearney High School.

The Tri-City Storm completed a two-game sweep of the Lincoln Stars with a 3-1 win Saturday night at the Viaero Center. The Storm have now won 8 in-a-row, their longest winning streak since the 2018-2019 Anderson Cup Championship season. The Storm will host the Des Moines Buccaneers this weekend.
