KGFW Sports – 4 Huskers All-Region, Andrews Honored Again and High School Update

Four members of the Nebraska volleyball team were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-North Region Team on Tuesday. Nicklin Hames, Madi Kubik, Lauren Stivrins and Lexi Sun were the Huskers’ four honorees for the second year in a row. For Stivrins and Sun it’s their third career all-region honors. The Huskers are in Omaha for the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers are the tourney’s 5th overall seed and will take on the Texas State-Utah Valley winner tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. The NCAA Final is set for Saturday, April 24th at 8:00.

The Husker football team is holding their 8th practice of the spring this morning. Offensive coordinator Matt Lubick, defensive coordinator Eric Chinander and several players will be speaking to the media after the workout. You can find links to today’s interviews at HUSKERMAX.com. The Spring Game is Saturday, May 1st. Kickoff will be at 1:00.

One other Husker football headline: At least six official visitors are expected June 4th, assuming the NCAA ends its recruiting dead period.

Shortstop for the Husker softball team, Billie Andrews has been named the Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week for a third straight week. Andrews is just the fourth player in conference history to win three straight freshman-of-the-week accolades. On the season, Andrews leads all Big Ten freshmen in hits (27), runs (20), triples (2), home runs (4), RBIs (19), batting average (.342), slugging percentage (.582) and stolen bases (9). The Huskers are in Minneapolis this weekend for a four game series with the Gophers.
