Nebraska farmer almost ‘off to the races’ with planting

A south-central Nebraska farmer says it’s still too early to start planting.

Blake Dunaway grows corn and soybeans near Orleans and says he won’t start planting until next week.

“We are getting prepared,” Dunaway said. “We have a little bit of strip tilling left to do, get our pre-sprayed and that should be about it; wait for the ground to warm up to [temperature] and we’ll be off to the races.”

He tells Brownfield even though the soil temperature is in the upper 30s and still too cold, Mother Nature has cooperated in other ways.
