The president and CEO of the US Meat Export Federation says beef exports to Japan could hit a little bit of a lull for the next month.
But, Dan Halstrom says doesn’t come as a surprise. “The business was so good in 2020 and into early 2021, which is the end of the Japanese fiscal year, that we triggered the safeguard,” he says.
He tells Brownfield until mid-April US frozen beef headed into Japan will see tariffs increase to 38.5% from its normal 25% rate.
